The Provincial Lead, Holy Ghost Fathers (Spiritans, UK), Fr. Ugo Ikwuka, CSSp, has named our own Fr Dennis Ortese Yiye, CSSp, to become the Assistant Priest of the Cathedral Church of St Mary of the Isle & St Joseph, Douglas, Isle of Man - part of the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
The appointment is effective from 1st September 2024.
Our loss is their gain! Fr Dennis will be greatly missed. He has only been with us for less than a year, and we know how he has flourished, and how gentle, considerate and solid he is in his pastoral abilities. He has demonstrated his ability to be a keen collaborator. We pray for him, knowing the depth of responsibilities given to him, yet his ability to engage others and work with them will stand him in good stead. God bless him.
The Isle of Man is one of the 13 Deaneries which make up the Archdiocese of Liverpool. On the Island, there are 6 Roman Catholic churches with Fr. Dennis' new parish having been "elevated to cathedral status by Pope Francis following Douglas being awarded city status as part of the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
As a ‘co-cathedral’ to the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, 80 miles away across the Irish Sea, it is the first Catholic co-cathedral in the British Isles. Co-cathedrals are rare in the Catholic Church, but can exist when two dioceses, each with its own cathedral, are merged or when a single diocese spans two distinct civil jurisdictions." [1]
We keep Fr, Dennis in our prayers as he prepares to undertake his new ministry, we reflect fondly on his time here at St. Teresa's, Holy Trinity and St Luke's and thank him for all he has given across our wider parish community. We ask God to strengthen Fr Dennis and guide him as he makes his preparations.
Rev Lucien Mbolatiana, CSSp, newly ordained, has been appointed to replace Fr Dennis as our Assistant Priest.
